I had a great time photographing this magazine cover last month. Cassidy is a great ambassador for the the sport of rodeo and I look forward to covering some of this year’s Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo.

As I was covering the St. Joseph High School soccer game recently, I was pleasantly surprised when a Siberian Husky ran onto the field and started to play. I was following the action when suddenly the dog ran over and tripped up the play. I wish the puppy had be more prominent in the top photo but it certainly made for an exciting few minutes of the game.

Dave Hadley rides across the causeway on his bike toward Antelope Island Friday, March 21, 2014. Hadley, 72, a park regular, has more than 24,950 miles on his bike odometer. He has ridden the same distance as the circumference of the earth at the equator (24,901 miles). He does all his riding on the island because it is safer than dodging cars and snapping dogs on Ogden City streets.

Recently, the Standard-Examiner has been producing a ton of video content for their website, standard.net, and I have tried as a freelancer to branch out into the realm of video production. My first one didn’t turn out so well but I feel like I am doing much better. And even though I have a long way to go, I feel very excited about the prospects of producing some compelling videos in the future. Below is a list of some of the recent reports.

Hailey at the Queen Bee

Queen Bee Comp

I ran into Hailey Zenger who is the heart and soul of The Queen Bee on 25th Street in Ogden. It’s a super cool store with amazing chocolate. I happened to have a plastic camera on hand and shot these.

Pinewood Derby Win!

PINEWOOD FINAL

Pinewood Derby2

After this year, I will only have one more chance to build a Pinewood Derby car with my Cub Scout aged boys. I always try and build what they want so when my youngest son asked to build something “Mindcraft,” I had to try and make it work.

I was really proud as I watched his mind working through exactly what he wanted in a Creeper Car. He loosely drew out the profile and we found an image online to put on as a skin for the design and here are the results.

When it comes to winning, I haven’t ever figured out how to do that. There are always more skilled racers. In fact, I think in all the years I have been building these with my boys, we always seem to come in EXACTLY average. Last year there were 26 cars and we were 13th. This year there were 22 and we took the 11th spot.

Luckily it’s not about the results, but the journey to get there.

I first met Gabriela Guerra on an assignment two years ago while covering a Mexican Film Festival she was in charge of in Salt Lake City. We made tentative plans to do a quick photo shoot sometime and now, two years later we finally got around to it. Here are the results.

It was a perfect day for the inaugural Global Fat Bike Summit bike race and snow festival. I don’t think I will be upgrading to a fat bike anytime soon since there are a few other upgrades I am due for that are way more pressing. However, what a great way to keep cyclists on their saddles during the winter time. This sport seems to have exploded out of nowhere!

I produced a video about the event, (watch it here), and Mayor Mike Caldwell said that even the people who work for the manufacturers can’t get their hands on a fat bike frame. It will be interesting to see how this event progresses over the years but the GOAL Foundation, Ogden CVB and Ogden City did a great job hosting this event.

Here are some pre-publicity photos from an original play at Weber State called Girl of Glass. It seems like a spooky production where somehow, this character keeps a bunch of these jars of “memories” and…well… I guess you’ll have to see the rest.
